Adult Christian Education

The Apostle Paul prays the faithful in the city of Colossi would continue "growing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:10). Similarly, the Apostle Peter encourages his readers to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). The Christian Education program at Covenant Presbyterian Church endeavors to nurture believers in the knowledge of Christ and foster continued spiritual growth as both Paul and Peter urged the church of their own day.

In order to promote spiritual growth and maturity, we pursue four specific goals: biblical literacy, theological depth, historical awareness, and faithful cultural engagement. These goals are reflected by our current Sunday morning Adult Education curriculum. The curriculum features the following 12 classes offered over the course of three years:

Genesis 1-11
Redemptive History
Life and Work of Christ
Life and Teachings of Paul
Ancient Creeds
Heresies Ancient and Modern
Church History
Westminster Confession of Faith
Ecclesiology
The Christian Life
Christian Social Ethics
Commending the Christian Faith

The Christian Education department also plans occasional lectures and groups such as our Mars Hill Discussion Group. The group meets every other month or so to discuss a topic featured in the latest Mars Hill Journal. The Journal itself address a variety of topics from art and film to law and politics seeking to encourage thoughtful Christian engagement and discernment.
